Vans is a skateboarding brand that started in 1966 that was created by Paul and Jim Van Doren, hence where the brand name came from. In recent years, the shoes have become a teen favorite for the shoes’ functional and fashionable designs. UHS News spoke with a few students and staff to get their opinion on Vans and why the shoes are the brand of their choice.

Alondra Ochoa, a Junior at UHS said she likes vans because “They seem like a nice shoe and also they go with everything.”  Ochoa’s favorite style is the white Old Skool Vans.  Ochoa has never really skated in Vans, but she said they are very comfortable and she would recommend them to fellow students. Ochoa believes that the price is reasonable for the quality of the shoe.

Counselor Arroyo kicking back in his. Vans

Freshman Counselor Jose Arroyo is a Vans fan and former Ukiah High Wildcat. Arroyo said he cannot remember why he first started wearing Vans, but he remembers always liking them. Arroyo says his favorite style of Vans would be the black and white checkered Vans, saying he’s been through countless pairs.

Regarding the comfort of Van, Arroyo said, “I find them to be comfortable, I wouldn’t take them hiking though. I always have a pair of vans in my closet due to practicality and comfort. Plus, they come in a variety of colors and seem to pair well with most outfits.”

Arroyo thinks Vans are reasonably priced saying, “There are shoes that have better quality, but I don’t think you’re going to find anything similar in this price range.”

Cadence Double skating with his Vans

Cadence Double, a Sophmore says that he’s been wearing Vans for as long as he can remember. As a shoe to skateboard in, Double said, “I think they are a great shoe for skating because they offer great support and they don’t tear or rip easily.” Regarding the price and quality of Vans, Double said, “I have bought skate shoes over $100 and they weren’t as good as Vans that I bought for half the price.”
