Ukiah High Wildcats Tahtiana and Mokee James had an exciting opportunity to compete in the North Coast Sectional Tennis Doubles Division Championships on November 18, 2024.
Coach Brian Brown shared his thoughts on the James sisters’ performance at NCS. “What helped them succeed was Mokee’s net play and Tahtiana’s baseline play,” he said. He also praised their “competitive spirit” during practice, which prepared them well for the playoff match.
Coach Brown expressed his pride in the girls’ achievements. “The team had finished third out of ten teams the last several years with our record this year at 12 wins and 4 losses,” he noted. Their success, he added, reflects the strength and progress of the tennis program as a whole.
Mokee shared her reaction to learning about their chance to play in the championships, saying she was “surprised” when she found out. While she admitted they “weren’t actively prepared for that big of an event,” she emphasized that their consistent match play throughout the season helped them trust their abilities and give their best effort.
Tahtiana described the experience of competing alongside her sister as “invigorating and eye-opening.”
Mokee echoed the sentiment, calling it “an incredible feeling” to play in NCS. Reflecting on their season, Mokee and Tahtiana worked super hard this last season and as Mokee said, “it was amazing to see our efforts pay off.”
