Ms. Morgan Clark, Ukiah High’s new Agriculture teacher, is excited to build up the future farmers of Mendocino County. Born and raised in Ukiah, Ms. Clark is an animal lover who is motivated to empower students with “self-confidence and determination” while teaching young minds. Ms. Clark is excited by all the endless opportunities the agriculture classroom gives to engage with students and teachers!
Ms. Clark graduated from Chico State and Ukiah High School. Some things she enjoys doing include caring for animals and gardening. Over the summer, Ms. Clark participated in a cattle drive. She brags that she is a better welder than most men.
Some may wonder what students are getting out of Ms. Clark’s agriculture classes other than cleaning barns and working on farms.
Agriculture classes are very diverse and offer something for everyone. They are designed around the three-ring model of class and lab instruction, FFA, and supervised agriculture experience (SAE). With FFA being a part of the three-ring model, these classes have the opportunity to go on a lot of trips like the Greenhand Conference, National Convention in Indianapolis, State Conference, and more! Ms. Clark cannot wait to travel with students for FFA activities and bond through SAE projects.
Ukiah High’s Ag program and FFA provide ample opportunity for leadership development and Ms. Clark says it enables students to gain confidence. Ms. Clark hopes that what students take out of her agricultural class is “a clearer vision of what they might like to pursue in life.”
Ms. Clark’s goal this year is to “improve the cleanliness and safety of the school farm and strengthen her curriculum development”. Another goal for her is that her students are “comfortable, driven, passionate and [to] challenge themselves.”
When we asked Ms. Clark about how she feels so far teaching at Ukiah High School, she said that it’s “awesome.” She also stated that we have an “extremely supportive community and welcoming staff” and luckily she has “the best teaching partner by my side, Ms. Potter.” Ms. Clark loves the “school spirit and high expectations that UHS sets” and tells us that “not many other schools can compare.”
