Have you ever noticed the mural behind the football field, on the wall by the bleachers at the back of Ukiah High’s campus?

This mural stands out on campus. There are no others like it, the vintage, layered stencil design, featuring our school mascot, Willy the Wildcat, along with the phrase ‘Home of the Wildcats’ in bold purple and gold. Though the paint has faded over time, the colors remain vibrant against the white backdrop of the football stands, evoking an old-school vibe that highlights the Wildcat spirit.

UHS News is curious to uncover the age and background of this mural. As a newsroom, we believe that preserving knowing our past is essential for our future. We’re calling on students, staff, alumni, and residents of Ukiah and Mendocino County to come together to help uncover the story behind this piece of art.

If you have any information about the mural’s origins or the artist behind it, please reach out to Ukiah High News student journalist Savannah Kram at savannah_kram27@uusd.net. Your input will be greatly appreciated as we work together to uncover and preserve this piece of our school’s history for future generations.
