As the 2024-2025 school year began, Wildcat Nation is lucky to have a new Vice Principal on board who is a familiar face to many, Ms. Jonica Vice.

UHS News sat down with Vice and discussed her new position and her career at Ukiah High.

The average Wildcat will into contact with Vice in the A-Building or possibly out-and-about on campus. She specializes in assisting students, and she works mainly in discipline, helping students and teachers process behavioral issues. She is also positioned in athletics, helping out student-athletes when needed.

Vice has occupied many roles here on campus including working as a Freshman Advisory teacher, a SCRUBs teacher, the Career Technical Educational Coordinator, and before her time in education, she worked as a first responder.

Vice came into the position after a staff change over the summer. Ms. Cassandra Mortier occupied the role of Vice Principal for the last ten years but pivoted to Freshman Advisory teacher for the 2024-2025 school year Now, Ms. Vice and Mr. Jim Snyder are Ukiah High’s Vice Principal team.

Vice told us her days start bright and early, with morning supervision and greeting students as they are dropped off and enter the Ukiah High campus. She proceeds with administrative duties, such as meetings for upcoming school events and projects coming soon to Ukiah High. She checks in with Wildcats, keeping updated with students and staff.

Outside of her administrative duties, Vice makes room every day to check in with individual students supporting their success in their classes and on campus. Later on in the school day, after dismissal, she takes time to work on her administrative duties often, attending meetings and events outside of school.

Vice told us she has grown since becoming part of Ukiah High’s administrative staff expressing gratitude for her friends and co-workers who helped her fit into this new role.

With her new role as Vice Principal, Mrs. Vice believes she has become more known around Ukiah High and Wildcats are more familiar with her name. Vice told us she hopes Wildcats come by and get to know her saying,“my office is always open.”
