Wildcat Nation! Ukiah High Cheerleading invites you to try out for their sideline and competitive cheer team. Varsity Coach Jamie Planka and Junior Varsity Coach Lamanda Walker are taking a big and exciting jump next year! There will be not only the Junior Varsity and Varsity Sideline teams but a Competitive team.

The dates for tryouts are May 13th-17th. Sideline cheer tryouts are from 4:00-5:30 p.m. and Competitive cheer tryouts are from 5:30-7:00 p.m. It is mandatory to show up since they will be teaching cheers and dances that you must learn and present by the end of the week. The biggest requirement for tryouts is strong commitment, dedication, and love for the sport.

For the very first time, Coach Planka created a new competitive cheer team. According to a post on the cheerleading social media, the team will only be attending CIF-regulated JAMZ competitions. For now, they only have 6 competitions planned to compete in, but that is “subject to change”. The competitions will be held throughout California and Las Vegas for nationals.

Sideline Cheer includes raising school spirit, learning new skills and techniques, maintaining flexibility, and getting endurance. Sideline teams attend all football games, both home and away, and school rallies, while captivating the community with pep and spunk! /

Some things that will help you prepare for tryouts are to make sure you bring water, wear athletic shoes and clothing, and have a clear schedule so you can make sure to be there every day.

Interested Wildcats should consider trying out because you can make new friends and be part of school spirit while getting some physical activity in! If there are any questions you can contact Coach Planka at jamieplanke@uusd.net and Coach Walker at lamandawalker@uusd.net.
