Our high school’s clock tower stands tall, a symbol of our school’s legacy. But, did you know that the tower features the image of a Native American? This figure, prominently displayed on its side, represents a story that many Wildcats do not even realize is there.

We believe it’s time to uncover the history behind this image. Who is this Native American figure? Why were they chosen to be part of our school’s clock tower? What significance does this hold for our community and its connection to Indigenous history?

A train, a plane, moving across the planes.

On one side, a Native man stands over a fallen deer, holding either an arrow or a spear, gazing over the lake. Another side features a train moving across the plains, with an airplane flying overhead. On the third side of the clock tower, a racially ambiguous young man sits on a horse atop a cliff, overlooking a lake and a herd of cattle spread across the field.

An indigenous hunter stands atop his kill.

We are asking students, staff, alumni, and community members to come together and help us find out more. If you have any knowledge, resources, or stories about the clock tower’s design and the Native American imagery, please share them with us. Your contributions will help us better appreciate and understand this important part of our school’s heritage.

Let’s work together to honor and learn from the past. Please email me at  Tahtiana_james25@uusd.net if you know anything about the history of the clock tower, who the artist is behind the art, or any interesting facts about this piece of Wildcat Nation.
