Taking a picture can be as easy as clicking a button, but with passion and skill it can be art. While Ukiah High is full of talented artists, a select few take the initiative to share that art. Senior Noah McKeown turned his passion for cars and interest in photography into a new hobby and is now sharing his art with the community.
McKeown has taken to Instagram and created his page (@nmckmedia) for the purpose of showcasing his car photos. Beginning in late January, McKeown began photographing the vehicles of both friends and acquaintances, mainly focusing on cars he finds to be cool.
McKeown said this semester he is taking Beginning Photography as an elective class, but his interest stems from his family and their history in photography. He also mentions that his focus in automobiles is a more recent development. Having gotten his driver’s license a few years ago, McKeown came to the realization that he wanted to drive something he was proud of. He then developed his interest in cars and combined that with his history of photography. He started taking photos of cars about five months ago but only began posting to his Instagram on January 20, 2021.

McKeown has photographed about 20 different vehicles, half of which can be seen on his Instagram. Originally he was taking photos of his friends’ cars, the ones he thought looked cool, but soon after starting his Instagram account people began messaging him asking if he would photograph their cars. McKeown says for now, he will continue to photograph any vehicle he can but eventually he’ll start having to select which vehicles best fit his Instagram.

When asked what his hopes are for his photography skills and his Instagram, McKeown said he hopes to make photography a side job and potentially a career selling photographs or posters of his work. As far as future social media plans, McKeown said he would like to make a YouTube if he gets popular enough.

For now though, McKeown continues his work on his instagram as he garners a following by sharing his talent.
