Every Wildcat should listen to the album Crybaby by Melanie Martinez. Melanie Martinez is a great singer and songwriter She sings songs about real events in life, such as child abuse and women’s rights.
Her song “Mrs. Potato Head” explores how women feel like they are not good enough and that some men want a girl to look perfect. The lyrics describe how girls feel like they can change themselves to feel good enough to make a man love them. This song gives a hopeful message encouraging young women to believe that if a man loves you enough, he will love you no matter how you look.
Her song “Dollhouse” talks about how a family acts so perfectly in public, but they are not perfect when away from the public eye. For example, the lyrics describe how the father is unfaithful to his wife and the mother is an alcoholic. These songs make it clear that not everything is as perfect as people say it is.
The last song worth mentioning is “Tag, You’re It.” It is about kidnappings and how sometimes when a girl speaks up, people do not believe her and when it happens again, she is too scared to say anything.
This album is better to listen to when you are sitting and relaxing because it is not demanding of a beat or super sad to where you cry. It gets you thinking about what other people might be going through.
