Have you ever thought about participating in a club? Clubs are a great way to connect with people while building your college resume.

High school is about more than just classes and grades. It’s a way to set yourself up for success. One of the best ways to make the most of your high school experience is by joining a club. Clubs give you a safe space to develop skills, explore a variety of interests, and connect with people who share your same passions. Not only does joining a club boost your academic development, it also boosts your social development. You’re guaranteed to enhance your skills and interests.

Senior Io Killilea shares his experiences with the Reconnect Club and how it’s benefited his high school experience. This club mainly focuses on reconnecting with nature. They do things like hikes, campouts, and overall exploring the outdoors. Io says, “[Clubs] help you get into college, and are good for socializing and making friends and connections for the future.”

Another example of the benefits of club involvement is that it can help you develop life skills. Ms. Edwards, overseer of the debate club, states, “We practice confidence and presenting [ourselves] to the world. This can be in a speech form or just getting ready for work life.” She also shares that the club helps students “to speak confidently.” This emphasizes that confidence is just one of the many skills you can develop while being involved in a club.

Sasha Rodriguez, vice president of the bird club, shares that being involved in a club gives her time, even during school hours, to enjoy what she’s passionate about. “We do a lot of field trips to go and watch birds, and I usually don’t have time to do that in my free time. I made a lot of friends and found people with common interests.” Clubs can also give you a break to do something you enjoy and are passionate about.

Student activities director Mr. Ott adds, “clubs give you a chance to try new things or just bring students together with common interests.”

As you can see, clubs are very beneficial to students. Try one today!
